Celebrating a Milestone: My Journey to ‘Solopreneur of the Year’

The night of October 19, 2023, was a defining moment in my entrepreneurial journey. I am incredibly honored to have been named the ‘Solopreneur of the Year’ at the Carleton Place & District Chamber of Commerce Awards Gala. This recognition is not just an accolade for me but a testament to the hard work, resilience, and passion that has driven my business journey over the past 11 years.

Entering the gala, I carried with me a mix of excitement and uncertainty. The competition was formidable, with brilliant minds like Wendy Martin Financial Services Inc., The Marketing Station, and Ben Hemmings Media in the running. Each one of them has made remarkable contributions, and I have immense respect for their work.

When my name was announced, a wave of emotion swept over me. As I walked up to accept the award, my hands trembled, and tears threatened to spill. It was a moment of overwhelming gratitude and joy, a rare instance where the usually composed business owner in me gave way to the human side, susceptible to commercials that can bring a tear to the eye.

This award, ‘Solopreneur of the Year’, is about more than just individual success. It symbolizes a community leader who not only thrives in business but also contributes significantly to the Carleton Place & District community. It’s about helping others succeed and being a beacon of hope and inspiration. Last night’s experience reinforced a vital lesson for me – in the journey of a solopreneur, you are never truly alone. We may often feel isolated, but in reality, we are surrounded by a community that supports and uplifts us.

My family has been my rock throughout this journey. My husband, Sean J. Lawrence, and daughter, Arden, though not present at the gala, have been my unwavering supporters. Their love and belief in me have been pillars of strength. My sons, Andrew and Kyle Lawrence, although not living at home, continue to be a source of immense pride and support. To my family – I love you all deeply and thank you for being my constant cheerleaders.

A special thanks to the Chamber team, Jackie Kavanagh and Sarah Kistler, for their exceptional work on the event, and to the beautiful Stonefields Estate for hosting us. The night was nothing short of magical, thanks to their efforts.

Reflecting on the past 11 years, I am filled with gratitude for everyone who has been part of my solopreneur journey. This award is not just mine; it belongs to all of us who have shared in this adventure. It’s a reminder that our hard work, dedication, and the risks we take do get recognized and appreciated.

As I look to the future, I am more motivated than ever to continue growing, learning, and contributing to our community. This award is a new beginning, a stepping stone to greater heights. Thank you all for being a part of my story, and here’s to many more chapters filled with success and community spirit!
